Everybody loves to laugh, but not everybody finds the same things funny! Three American comedians are on a quest to the ends of the earth to discover what’s unique to each country’s sense of humor and what is universally hilarious!

Now finalists in the New York Television Festival's TruTV Comedy Breakout Initiative, Funny Planet is a show that uses comedy as a springboard to conversations about a country’s culture, history, and political climate. How do Palestinian humorists draw attention to the situation in the West Bank? What are the dangers of political comedy in Moscow? Do Germans even laugh?

This comedy series seeks to explore the last remaining unknown: the humorsphere! Audiences will get to know faraway cultures through their comedians, jokes, and comedy scenes. From the razor-sharp wit of the former mayor of Reykjavik to the basement open mics of Johannesburg, Funny Planet wants to bring audiences along for the laughs.

Audience members will get to plumb the depths of some of the most unique comedy venues around the world and meet the funniest, most eclectic cast of real-life characters that Earth has to offer. You may have been to these places, but you’ve never been to these places.

In addition to the concept-pilot shot in Reykjavik, Iceland, Season 1 destinations could include Tokyo, Moscow, Johannesburg, Berlin, Mumbai, Paris, Rio De Janeiro, Tel Aviv, London, Manila, and Hong Kong.
